Going forward in the District final the girls had high hopes and knew it would be a tough battle. Having fallen short last year, the girls really wanted a chance to get back to earning that title. The first half brought a lot of intensity and energy both ways as Mast and Dock fought back and fourth, but leaving Dock dominating most of the first half. Peyton Scialanca was able to slide in a goal off of a corner from Lauren Moatemri, which made the score 1-0 at half. Dock knew the second half was going to bring grit and determination from Mast as they would try to make a comeback. Mast was able to get a touch on a ball that deflected off of keeper Audrey Schweizerhof to tie the game at 1-1. With many breakaway and scoring attempts by Dock, they were unable to capitalize on the opportunities, however their energy and positive attitudes led them into a nail biting moment as Mast gave away a penalty for a handball. Lauren Moatemri was able to hit the ball hard enough near the keeper that even with her slight touch, left her unable to save it. There wouldn’t be a winning goal without the hard work and mentioning of the team as a whole. What a great way to continue the season!
