On July 7th, 2020 Liz Anjos aka “Mercury” will embark on a 2,193 mile journey traversing the entire Appalachian Trail by foot from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Katahdin in Maine, attempting to complete the trail in record time. The overall record for completing the entire trail stands at 41 days, 7 hours, and 39 minutes set by Karel Sabbe in 2018. The women’s record stands at 46 days, 11 hours, and 20 minutes, set by Jennifer Pharr Davis in 2011 (an overall record at the time).
Liz’s record attempt will be supported by Warren Doyle, a hiker, educator, and expert on the Appalachian Trail who set an endurance record on the trail in 1973, completing it in 66 days, and currently holds the informal record for hiking the entire trail the most times (18!). Liz will also be supported by family in Virginia and Pennsylvania, and friends throughout the long distance hiking and trail running communities in the Eastern US.
