Game Recap

Tonight’s volleyball match had everything you want when playing for the League Championship. Everything that is… except for the outcome. Dock traveled to Avon Grove for an evening match against their League rival who beat them in 4, earlier in the season at Dock.
Dock came out in dominant fashion and commanded sets 1 and 2. Dock never trailed the Red Devils of Avon Grove. The tables turned in dramatic fashion in set 3. Avon Grove was able to serve Dock tougher than they had for the rest of the evening. They also were finally able to settle into their offense and win the battle at the net. Set 4 saw a brief tie at 8-8 but after that it was mostly Avon Grove. Dock would make a run at the end to close the gap but couldn’t finish the job.
The fans at AG were now on their feet and urging their boys on to the 5th and final set. Dock silenced the crowd by jumping out to an early 5-2 lead. AG came back tieing the set at 7-7 and 8-8. Dock took off at that point and seemingly had the match at 14-10. A serving error on match point however opened the door for the Red Devils. Their strongest server stepped up to the line and while Dock would continue to battle each and every point… AG came back to life and took the match with 5 straight points to win the dramatic match and clinch the League title.
Two season high marks were reached tonight by Ryan Class and Jaden Hunsberger- Class would lead Dock with 18 kills and two aces, Hunsberger had 33 digs and 2 aces. Lincoln Bergey added 15 kills and 15 digs. Dylan Derstine had 37 assists.
The Boys should hold their heads high as tonight’s match was the best that this squad has played to date this season.
Dock is now 8-5 overall, 6-2 in League play. Dock travels to Unionville for their next League match on Thursday.

Game Recap

Dock returned to the court after the weekend break for a match against cross-town opponent North Penn. North Penn was able to keep the Dock squad on it’s heels in the first set with strong serving and dynamic setting to their outside hitters. Dock lost set one but came out on fire in set two.
In set two, Dock was able to clean up their serve receive game and it showed in their ability to use their offense to full capacity. Dock would never trail in set 2 and was led by Ryan Class with 4 kills, 1 ace and 4 digs in the set.
The energy from set 2 quickly fizzled however is set 3. The Pioneers found themselves down early, 4-7, with 4 missed serves. It took a while to regroup and although the second half of the set went Dock’s way, the early deficit was too much for the boys to overcome. The best of 5 match ended in 4 with Dock unable to overcome the Knights of North Penn.
Dylan Derstine led them team offensively with 15 assists. Lincoln Bergey had 14 kills, Ryan Class 9 kills. Jaden Hunsberger had 20 digs.
Dock’s record moves to 8-4 overall, 6-1 in League play. Dock plays for a share of the League title tomorrow night at 7 PM at Avon Grove.
