Having played 4 matches in 6 days, the Dock Boys had to dig deep and power through this important League match. Unionville was the only opponent they have not faced in League play yet. While the first set found Dock trailing by 4 early, once they tied it up at 11-11, they held the lead until securing the win off of a kill by Braden Landis.

The second set Dock would trail by a point or two early on. It was Eli Vasey who stepped to the service line when Dock was trailing 11-12. The service run which catapulted Dock to a 16-12 lead was highlighted by 2 solo blocks by Troy Vasey and a kill by Sam Gingerich and Braden Landis.

Set 3 perhaps Dock was hoping for a let down from the opponent but Unionville stayed strong, having never beaten Dock in recent history. Dock’s biggest lead of the set was at 19-13. Seemingly this would be an easy finish. Unionville battled back though was able to fight till the score was tied 25-25. A monsterous kill by Troy Vasey tallied the 26th point for Dock. Sam GIngerich served up the potential match winner and while Unionville was able to attack, it was a Connor Derstine dig, set by Eli Vasey and hitting attempt by Branden Landis which threw the opponent off balance and led to the match win for Dock.

Leading the way for the Pioneers tonight was Connor Derstine with 22 digs and 2 aces. Troy Vasey came up big with 7 kills and 3 blocks. Sam Gingerich had 10 kills, 11 digs and 1 ace. Jake Shriener had 7 kills, 9 digs and 2 aces. Braden Landis added 7 kills. Eli Vasey dished out 28 assists, had 10 digs and 1 ace.

Dock stays undeafeated in the League with a 4-0 record. Overall the Pioneers are 5-2. Dock’s next match is next Tuesday against League opponent Avon Grove.
