Dock Girls Soccer earned the first seed in District Playoffs against Delaware County Christian School. Monday evening, with high winds and low temperatures, the girls still came out with intensity to stay on the attack for most of the game. In the first half alone, Dock had 6 corner kicks and 12 shots on goal. It wasn’t until 15:58 into the first half, when senior Peyton Scialanca, took a corner kick for Dock. Scialanca was able to loft the ball perfectly into the box, where a Delco defender scored an own goal. With Dock up 1-0, the girls continued to have multiple scoring opportunities down the flanks. Both outside midfielders, Ashley Lapp and Tess Bergey used their speed and space on the outside to be successful with their crosses. Dock was able to find the forwards in the open space with the through ball. Forwards, Emma Kratz, Kayla Godshall, Abby Mellinger and Peyton Scialanca fought hard against Delco’s back line but could not put any more away. Center midfielders, Kenzie Derstine and Abby Lanning, battled the entire game against Delco’s uneven number of midfielders. Dock’s strength and success came from winning the ball out of the air and finding feet or open space for their teammates. Dock’s defensive line proved to be just as solid in winning those 50/50 balls in the air to distribute wide. The score finished with a 1-0 win for Dock. Dock Girls Soccer will continue their post season run at Home, on Dock’s turf on Thursday, November 5th.
