If you base a match on the first set, it appeared Dock would be able to come away with the match win. Things are not always as they seem though.
Dock handled the Panthers of William Tennet maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the first set. The second set Dock got a wake up call when Tennet jumped out to an early lead. The Panthers held onto that lead and while Dock would make a push late in the set, the damage was already done. Set Three was more of the same, ending with the exact same score.
Dock regrouped and showed an improved ability in their passing game which in turn resulted in a more diversified offense. The plan worked and Dock came away with the Set 4 win. Heading into the Fifth set were two hungry teams fighting for the win.
Tennet came out strong but Dock rallied right back and tied the final set at 3’s. Dock made a run and tallied points to give them the advantage mid-set at 8-4. The Panthers relentless defense though was not willing to bend, They battled each attack and were able to get back into the game, tying the teams once again at 10-10. Once tied, it was Tennet that would take the reins and chip away until the last point- which as in the night before, ended in dramatic fashion with a failed block attempt. The ball once again trickled down onto Dock’s side which ended the Boys hope of making the full comeback to win.
On the night Jake Shriener led the team with 12 kills and 17 digs. Sam Gingerich in a strong outing added 11 kills, 17 digs and 3 aces. Eli Vasey has 33 assists and 4 aces. Connor Derstine on defense tallied 31 digs.
Dock’s League record is 3-0, overall record 4-2. They go right back to the court tonight at home to face League opponent Unionville, 7 PM.
