Dock Girls Soccer Finishes Strong Against Calvary Christian

Dock Girls Soccer traveled to Calvary Christian on Monday afternoon for their first meeting this Fall. 5 minutes into the game, center midfielders, Tess Bergey and Eden Loux, worked combinations together to find the through ball to freshman Ashley Brown. Brown was able to finish off the breakaway to earn the first goal of the game. 5 Minutes later, outside back, Caitlin May, found space down the flanks to serve the ball to Ashley Brown once again who found the back of the net for goal number 2. Halfway through the first half, Ashley Brown placed a diagonal ball to Ceara Barnes making the run through Calvary’s back line. Barnes drew the defenders to the end line, and slotted the ball across the box to Gretchen German for an easy tap in. Dock’s midfield dominated with keeping possession and finding the open space. Emerson Gruver controlled the ball and found a perfect through ball to senior Olivia Moyer. Moyer calmly placed her shot in the corner to finalize the score 4-0 at half. For most of the second half, Dock worked their combination play to move the ball quickly around Calvary. With 15 minutes left in the game, Ashley Brown saw Emerson Gruver on the overlapping run. Gruver found the space to toe poke the ball into the back of the net. Leading 5-0, Dock was determined to control the remainder of the game. Senior Billinda Leisner quickly saw the open through ball to freshman, Ashley Brown. Brown took a quick shot, and Calvary’s goalkeeper came up big with the initial save. Unable to control the rebound, senior, Ceara Barnes was there to finish the attack. Calvary was able to get their first and only goal with a few minutes left in the game. Dock’s defensive line was unable to clear the ball off a long throw in. Calvary’s forward was there to put the shot in the back of the net on goalkeeper, Emily Markel. With less than two minutes to go in the game, senior Billinda Leisner knew she wanted to earn Dock another point. She took a shot from 35 yards out, and placed it beautifully over Calvary’s goalkeeper. Dock walked away confidently with the 7-1 lead.
