Girls Soccer traveled to Ocean City, NJ on Friday morning for their first ever out of state contest at the beach. Along with boys’ soccer, Dock played local school, Lansdale Catholic to start off the play day. The girls were focused and determined to leave everything out on the field. In the first half, junior Ava Stokes caused a lot of chaos down the right flank which caught LC off guard. Stokes and sophomore Ashley Brown worked well together to combine strings of passes together around LC’s back line. About halfway through the first half, Stokes received a pass about 25 yards from the goal. She hit a quick one time shot and found the back of the net to take the lead 1-0. This did not stop the momentum that LC was pushing on Dock’s back line. Senior captain, Hailey Cummings kept her fellow defenders organized and composed to mark tightly against a strong LC offense. Sophomore, Maddy Gendron, senior Caitlin May, and junior Gretchen German all contributed to the strong defensive block that the girls had on LC. Going into half time, Dock was still leading 1-0. Ashley Brown was a dangerous threat on LC’s center backs. After many attempts to get through the back line, and strong tackles against the sophomore from LC’s defenders, Brown was finally able to find the space behind their back line for a breakaway on LC’s goalkeeper. She tucked away goal number 2 of the game, to solidify the lead 2-0. Dock played the remainder of the game with composure and strength to keep LC from having any dangerous opportunities. Junior goalkeeper, Emily Markel came up big on a couple set pieces and scoring opportunities to hold the game at 2-0. Dock finished the game with a score of 2-0.
