On a Tuesday afternoon the Pioneers of Dock Mennonite Academy traveled to league opponent Jenkintown, Pioneers won eight to seven, in an exciting game!
With temperatures just reaching forty degrees at game time, the Pioneers rose to the occasion and set the tone early in the game, by scoring first, in the first quarter, and took an early lead, by the end of first quarter the score was three to one with Pioneers with the lead. By half time the score was four to two with Pioneers still with the lead. Jenkintown took the lead into the third quarter, five to four. In the last quarter the Pioneers stepped up and scored three goals to finish with the league win, final score eight to seven!
Pioneers was led by outstanding play by goalie Ashlyn Koelzer, she made four saves during the game, and was crucial at the end of game, stepping up and making the save with the pressure on! Strong defense from Jenna Detweiler, Amanda Moyer, Avery Goldcamp, and Maddie Gendron. Pioneers caused a turnover at the end of game which help secure the win.
Pioneers attack was led by Bailor White with four goals and an assist, Sophia Veltre with two goals and two assists and Beylse Landis with two goals. Attackers Emerson Gruver, Aubrey Clemmer who also had an assist, Lily Hunsberger, Sami Anderson, and Brielle Bauman. Pioneers had fourteen shots on goal, ten draw control possessions and twenty two ground ball pick ups.
Pioneers continue to play strong together and are working hard and bringing the heat during game time, today marked a historic win in Dock lacrosse history, beating league champion Jenkintown.
Next game is home on Monday versus non league opponent Academy of New Church for a 7pm game. Pioneers JV also has a game on Friday home versus non league opponent North Penn for a 4:45pm game.
Pioneers are 4-5 Overall and 2-0 BAL undefeated in league play
