Souderton - 23

On Tuesday evening, the Pioneers traveled to Souderton to play under the lights. Though the Pioneers lost 23 to 9, the score did not reflect the outstanding team effort by each member of the team, including being ahead in the first quarter 5 to 4.

Pioneers were led by midfielder Abby Mellinger, who had 3 goals, 3 shots on goal, and 9 draw control possessions on the night. Midfielder Jenna Detweiler also had 3 goals and 3 shots on goal and picked up 6 ground balls.  Attacker Sophie Veltre also had 3 goals and 2 shots on goal and forced a turnover too.  Attacker Tess Bergey contributed 3 ground ball pick ups and 6 draw control possessions. Attacker Brielle Bauman also had a shot on goal and Mary-Ellen Picariello had a shot on goal and ground ball pick up and 2 draw control possessions. Attacker Lily Hunsberger set good picks on the night.

Pioneers goal keeper Jenayah Alvarado Vanegas saved 6 shots on the night and goal keeper Mady Pustay had 1 save.  Defenders were led by Olivia Veltre who also had 2 shots on goal and 3 ground ball pick ups.  Strong defensive by Amanda Moyer, Maddy Gendron, Claudia Fernandez, Sami Anderson and Daniella Slater-Miller.

Pioneers as a team had 17 draw control possessions, 21 ground ball pick ups, forced 6 turnovers, and had 12 shots on goal. Pioneers played with a lot of heart and really hustled and played great together as team, we continue to grow and learn and looking forward to our next game on Tuesday, April ninth when we host Collegium Charter for a 3:45pm game.

Special thank you to Claudia Fernandez as she was a new member on the team this year and new to lacrosse, she worked hard and became a starter on defense, she also scored a goal in our last game and contributed to causing three turnovers, we wish you well as you head back to Spain and we enjoyed you being on the team and glad you came out!
