Marlyse Giesbrecht and Daniel Ringenberg won the mixed division at the Ekiden Relays hosted by Bristol on Friday.
The Ekiden Relays feature two-person teams that split the 5k course with each runner doing one-half. A sash is worn by the first runner on the course and passed off then to the second runner.
Ringenberg, the senior boys captain, gave Dock the overall lead with boys teams, girls teams, and mixed teams all starting together. Giesbrecht, the girls senior rco-captain, then kept the Pioneers pair ahead. Dock won the mixed division with a time of 19:19, which was 28 seconds better than Bristol’s top team. Dock overall was fifth.
Ringenberg came back after a slight rest to anchor a second team with Maddy Churches, the junior co-captain who returned to racing. They placed 11th overall, fourth in the mixed division with a time of 21:30.
The relay also featured the chance to predict your finishing time. Both teams were well under their predicted times.
Dock will compete in the Bicentennial Athletic League championship Wednesday at Tyler State Park.
