The Dock Boys Cross Country team hosted 20 schools for the Dock Invitational before honoring its two seniors Tuesday.

It was the final cross country race at Dock for Aaron Sensenig and James Steinmetz, and they helped the Pioneers to another strong showing as the team gears up for the championship portion of the season. Dock placed fifth with 160 points, trailing Bicentennial Athletic League teams Bristol (102 points) and Faith (129) and finishing better than Delaware County Christian (174) and Collegium Charter (184). Holy Ghost Prep won the boys division. Mount Saint Joseph won the girls division.

Sensenig was the top finisher for Dock. The Pioneers senior captain ran 18:38.9 for 15th place. It is the fastest time he has ever run on the Dock course. He is the lone four-year member of the cross country team this year and his experience has been a huge plus. Steinmetz finished 33rd in 19:36.8. It was just his second race on the course as part of his first season of cross country. He’s been an incredibly valuable addition to the team with his work ethic and positive outlook. Just two-tenths of a second ahead of Steinmetz thanks to a furious kick was Xander Morsby in 32nd place. The sophomore registered another new personal record of 19:36.6, his first time running under 20 minutes. He, too, is in his first season of cross country. Josh Frederick also recorded a personal record. Coming off an injury, he has used the last two races to reboot and his fitness is starting to show up. The junior clocked 20:17.1 and placed 46th overall. Ryan Ykoruk was just off his personal best. The freshman gave the Pioneers a strong fifth scoring finisher, 51st overall, in 20:38.6. His finish sealed Dock’s fifth-place finish in the large field. Jinyang Li made a successful return to racing. The junior bounced back from injury that cost him three weeks of racing to run 25:54.4 for 134th place. He brings much needed depth for the Pioneers.

Dock will race in the Ekiden Relays on Friday at Bristol. The race breaks the 5k in half for two-person relays. It’s the final competition before next Wednesday’s BAL Championships.
