On a beautiful fall Monday afternoon, the Pioneers field hockey team traveled to Plumstead, to play a league game. Pioneers won five to zero.
Pioneers goals were scored by Scarlett Derstine (8:02) in the first quarter assisted by Sadie Bernd on a lift on goal and Ellie Crissman (5:28) assisted by Paige Hinnershitz on a lift. In the second quarter goals were scored by Ellie Crissman (13:37) assisted by Beylse Landis and Sophia Veltre (2:26) unassisted on a straight shot. the last goal was scored by Lydia Ehst (8:43) unassisted on a corner.
Pioneers had thirteen shots on goal and six offensive corners. Pioneers attack was led by Paige Hinnershitz, Ellie Crissman, Aubrey Clemmer, Mary Ellen Picarello, and Scarlett Derstine. Pioneers midfielders who contributed to both attack and defense were Sophia Veltre, Sadie Bernd, Daniella Slater-Miller, Beylse Landis, Natalie Fabrizio and Ashlyn Koezler.
Strong goalie effort from both Madison Afanador and Lily Kulp. Madison had four saves on the game and Lily had three saves, including some diving aerial saves as well. Both goalies earned the shut out and didn't allow Plumstead to score, despite eight shots on goal from Plumstead.
Defenders Lydia Ehst, Olivia Mozzone, Avery Goldcamp, Laura Charles and Lydia Senseng all contributed to strong defensive core and transitioned the ball to offensive players well.
Pioneers continue to play great team field hockey and developing together as a unit. Pioneers next game is on Thursday as they will host Bristol, Varsity at 3:45pm and JV at 5pm.
