Yebeen Lee and Cindy Tong represented Dock in the BAL Doubles Championship. They won a quick match versus Phil-Mont’s top team 6-3, 6-3. In the semi-final match, the girls fought hard against Jenkintown’s top pair, but fell in two long sets. At that time, the Dock duo was eliminated. Due to an unfortunate injury for a member of Delco Christian, the two semi-finalist duos played off for the second and final spot in the District One Doubles Tournament next week in Springfield. Lee and Tong traveled to Jenkintown to play their 2nd pairing on Wednesday along with their teammates to support them. The girls came in focused and determined to play their best tennis of the year. With a bright sun shining on one side of the court, there was a clear advantage for the team not looking into the sun. Dock fought well on that side and had a tight first set all the way until 6-6 and needed to win a 7 point tiebreaker to close out the first. Starting on the sun side, Dock went down 5-1 at the court change. Cindy had some big serves and neither Dock player made a mistake on that side, winning six straight points and taking the tiebreaker and first set. All of the momentum was on Dock’s side for the second set after a heartbreaker for Jenkintown. Yebeen was serving unbelievably all match and had 10+ unreturned serves. She got the set off to an easy start, 1-0 and they never looked back in the set, holding on 6-4 and becoming just the second doubles team to qualify for the District Tournament in the last 10 years. Congratulations to Yebeen and Cindy and play well in Districts!

Girls Tennis came to play as Phil-Mont came to the Dock Courts for a BAL league matchup and it was a long one. Yebeen Lee battled at first singles, but struggled to match consistency with a brick wall. Cindy Tong had her best match of the year and was able to finish the close games in her favor. She came away with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to tie it up, 1-1. Morgan Brown played a tough match at 3rd singles and fought through a foot injury the whole day, but we were proud of her grit to finish the match and make it close until the end, dropping both sets 6-2, 6-4. Our doubles teams had their best matches of the year, battling for over 2 hours each. Lizzie and Cindy had great volleys and won a lot of clutch games throughout, but dropped the final two sets of the three set match. Jacqueline and Julie played a terrific match with two long sets. Their consistency was much improved and it gave them a season-high in games won, but came up short 4-6, 6-7. It was a great match for our team and looking forward to our next league matchup versus Calvary Christian.
