Mike Fergus.

Head Coach

Biography:

Building on his 600th win – Dock defeat of Church Farm School (21-22 season), Coach Fergus has just finished his 45th year of coaching. In his eight seasons at Dock, the Pioneers have won District Championships, been a regular participant in the State Playoffs and reached the State Elite 8.

Longevity and success have marked the excellent career of Coach Mike Fergus. As a high-school basketball player at State College High School, Coach Fergus lettered in 3 out of his 4 years, was captain, earned All-League honors, and was named League MVP his senior year. Also that year, he set the single season scoring record for his high school. He began his college play at Indiana University of PA and transferred to Penn State (University Park) and walked on his junior year.

Teamwork, conditioning, and fundamentals – especially defensive – are emphasized as he coaches. These basics of his philosophy were inspired by coaches Coach Fergus played under and worked with.

Coach Fergus has coached in a variety of high schools and colleges. He has a unique distinction of achieving 100 wins or more at 4 different high schools: Lee High School (Houston, TX), State College High School (State College, PA), North Penn High School (Lansdale, PA) and Dock Mennonite Academy, formally Christopher Dock High School (Lansdale, PA). He also has coached on the collegiate level as an assistant at Houston Baptist University (Division I) and at Delaware Valley University (Division III).

Coach Fergus recently retired as a long-time Health and Physical Education teacher at North Penn High School. He has four adult children, two grandchildren and enjoys reading – particularly history, as well as music and fitness – especially running.
