Girls Varsity Volleyball: Calvary Baptist Tournament Recap
Posted on 08/26/2024
Dock Girls went back to Calvary Baptist’s season-opening tournament with high hopes after falling short in previous years. Friday Dock opened up play against Plumstead, Coventry Christian, and Calvary Baptist in matches of two sets. Dock came out strong against Plumstead taking them easy the first game off good serving and defense. But in game two Dock let off the gas and found themselves down 18-7. Instead of throwing in the towel Dock fought back from big service runs from Aubrey Gahman and Hope Johnson. After a 16-2 run Dock worked back to get up 23-20, but Plumstead worked back and snuck away with the win 24-25. Its a game of runs.
Dock then bounced back against a well-rounded Coventry team and played their best game, splitting with them in a back-and-forth match. With lineups being changed and some fighting through early-season injuries, Dock showed great improvement Friday in another close match against Calvary Baptist, but ultimately was outmatched.
Saturday Dock played a rematch against Plumstead in a best of 5 match, and even through shifting lineups, Dock stayed focused and took care of business with a sweep of Plumstead. With the loss of a strong leadership senior class last year, we are excited to have Ella Bechtel join the staff and help continue building the program she played for.
After a busy weekend Dock goes into a 3 game week with a Home game Wednesday against Neshaminy with Varsity at 5pm! See you there!
