Five Dock finishers enjoyed strong performances to start the championship portion of the cross country season. Marlyse Giesbrecht, Bobby Jo Dodds and Daniel Ringenberg all medaled with top-10 finishes at the Bicentennial Athletic League Championship at Tyler State Park on Wednesday. And all five had encouraging times as they prepare for the district meet. Giesbrecht placed third overall in the BAL girls race. The senior co-captain took 1:16 off her top time at Tyler a year ago to finish in 22:38. Dodds was fourth. The senior dropped an astounding 1:52 off her time at Tyler five weeks earlier in a regular season meet to run 23:13 despite a limited week of training since a foot injury. Maddy Churches returned to racing. The junior co-captain placed 11th after just a week of training. She ran 25:14, an improvement over her only other race this season back in early September. Ringenberg also dropped major time in his final crack at Tyler. The senior captain placed eighth in 17:55, an improvement of 1:44 from five weeks earlier on the same course. It’s his second fastest 5k time ever. Aaron Sensenig pushed hard start to finish to place 17th overall. The sophomore ran 19:43, a 31-second improvement over his time a year ago in his first BAL Championships at Tyler. Dock tries to continue its development at the District 1 Championships at Lehigh on Friday morning, Oct. 28. The top two teams plus the next 10 individuals outside of the qualifying teams will advance to the state championships.

Marlyse Giesbrecht and Daniel Ringenberg won the mixed division at the Ekiden Relays hosted by Bristol on Friday. The Ekiden Relays feature two-person teams that split the 5k course with each runner doing one-half. A sash is worn by the first runner on the course and passed off then to the second runner. Ringenberg, the senior boys captain, gave Dock the overall lead with boys teams, girls teams, and mixed teams all starting together. Giesbrecht, the girls senior rco-captain, then kept the Pioneers pair ahead. Dock won the mixed division with a time of 19:19, which was 28 seconds better than Bristol’s top team. Dock overall was fifth. Ringenberg came back after a slight rest to anchor a second team with Maddy Churches, the junior co-captain who returned to racing. They placed 11th overall, fourth in the mixed division with a time of 21:30. The relay also featured the chance to predict your finishing time. Both teams were well under their predicted times. Dock will compete in the Bicentennial Athletic League championship Wednesday at Tyler State Park.

Pioneers Lose: -
Four Dock athletes competed at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on Saturday. All four recorded personal records. Daniel Ringenberg was the lone male competitor for the Pioneers. It was his first time competing on the Lehigh course since his freshman year, and the senior captain had the fastest race of his career to date. Ringenberg ran 17:52 to finish 121st out of 450 finishers in the Boys White Race. Over the second half of the race, Ringenberg passed 40 runners. Marlyse Giesbrecht was strong start to finish in her second race of the season. The senior co-captain ran 22:12 to place 151st out of 370 finishers in the Girls White Race, a 30-second improvement over her previous best. Bobby Jo Dodds was 20 seconds behind in 173rd place. The senior matched Giesbrecht with each passing 41 runners over the final half of the race. Her time was a jump of 1:22 from her PR set at the same course to end last year. Sam Anderson continued her emergence in her first season of high school running. The sophomore ran 30:01 to slice nearly four minutes off her previous best. Dock will compete again Monday in the Bicentennial Athletic League regular-season meet at Rose Tree Park.

Daniel Ringenberg has been able to use each race as a proving ground for how much he has improved in less than one year. The senior captain made his boldest statement of the season on Hershey as the lone Dock entry in the Foundation Invitational. It was the fourth year in which Ringenberg has run the Foundation meet, and last year he posted a finish of 20:52. Running again on the course that will be used in November for the state championship, Ringenberg went up against his fellow Single-A school competitors and placed 59th in 18:56, nearly two full minutes better than a year ago. His finish is the fastest Foundation meet time for a Dock runner since Matt Birch ran 18:54 in 2018. Dock cross country will compete next at the site of the District 1 meet in the Paul Short Run on Friday.

Dock had five total finishers at the Curtis Arboretum meet hosted by Jenkintown on Tuesday, including the first race of the season for Marlyse Giesbrecht and Sam Anderson. Bobby Jo Dodds led the girls with a second-place finish. The senior ran 23:26, more than a full minute better than her time on the same course a year ago. Giesbrecht made her return from injury to hang with Dodds throughout the hilly course. The senior co-captain ran 23:28, and was only 11 seconds off her time from a year ago in spite of just resuming her training. Anderson completed her first race with a top-20 finish. The sophomore posted a debut time of 33:41 for 19th place to give Dock a third female finisher. Daniel Ringenberg led the way for the boys. The senior captain ran 18:12, a 23-second improvement over his time a year ago. He placed seventh overall in the race, and overtook a competitor that had run quicker than him a week ago. Aaron Sensenig placed 11th. The sophomore, who is splitting time between training and gearing up for the lead role in the school musical, ran 19:38. As Dock heads into its academic mini-term, Ringenberg is scheduled to race Saturday at the Foundation Invitational in Hershey, the site of the state championship race in November.

Dock cross country got its first look at the Bicentennial Athletic League in a race at Tyler State Park on Tuesday. Bobby-Jo Dodds placed third in the girls race. The senior ran 25:05, a marked improvement over last year’s first race at Tyler in which she ran 26:17 and placed 12th. Daniel Ringenberg finished sixth in the first boys race in 19 minutes, 39 seconds. The time was only 20 seconds off his best ever on the course. His time also represented another big jump from a year ago. In last year’s first race at Tyler, Ringenberg ran almost one minute slower, 20:36. Dock will compete against many of the same BAL foes next Tuesday at a meet at the Curtis Arboretum.

The Dock cross country team went on the road for their second meet of the season Thursday. Daniel Ringenberg remained in the top 3 start to finish. The senior captain finished second overall in 18 minutes, 49 seconds on the Lancaster Mennonite course. It represented a huge jump from the 21:03 clocking he had on the same course as a sophomore two years ago. Aaron Sensenig can take inspiration from Ringenberg. Sensenig’s time as a sophomore Thursday was nearly identical, 21:04 despite taking a small wrong turn toward the finish. On the girls side, Bobby Jo Dodds was the top finisher for the Pioneers for the second straight meet. The senior ran 25:51 for third place among girls. Maddy Churches finished in 26:15 for sixth place. Neither boys nor girls scored as a team without five finishers. Dock will compete in the Dutchmen Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College on Saturday.

Lansdale Invitational After North Penn hosted the Lansdale Invitational for years, participating coaches agreed to have Dock host this year’s expanded field. Welcomed into the mix of Dock, North, Penn, Lansdale Catholic and Methacton were the Upper Dublin boys team and the Mount Saint Joseph girls team. The teams raced over the beautiful grounds of the Dock campus on Friday in the first meet of the season. Daniel Ringenberg was the top finisher for the Dock boys. The senior captain placed 17th in 18 minutes, 34 seconds. He ran a quick opening mile of 5:34 and then rolled over the next two miles to a big improvement in his course best. He ran 30 seconds faster Saturday than he had at the Dock Invitational last fall. Aaron Sensenig also had a promising start to his second season of cross country. The sophomore finished 33rd in 19:52. The time is a big jump from last year’s starting point when he ran over 22:00. Without five finishers, the Dock boys did not score as a team. The North Penn boys won the meet with 26 points with Upper Dublin – who had the top two individual finishers – placing second with 45 points. Bobby Jo Dodds was the top Dock finisher on the girls side. The senior was only one second away from a Top 20 finish. Dodds, who also is playing tennis this fall, ran 24:31, the fastest she ever has on the home course. She was just 37 seconds off her personal record. Maddy Churches was consistent start to finish. The junior co-captain placed 25th in 25:22 and showed a strong kick at the end. The Dock girls did not have five finishers to score as a team. The girls team race was a tight one with North Penn edging Methacton, 39-45, for overall honors and Mount third with 47 points. Dock will compete again Thursday at Lancaster Mennonite Catholic, then turns around to run in the Dutchmen Invitational on Saturday.
